Can I get extra credit for a newborn in 2023 as opposed to just a regular dependent in 2023?

No, there no type of 'extra' credit for a newborn.  You are eligible for the Child Tax Credit on the 2023 tax return for all dependent children under the age of 17.

Make sure that you indicate that the child lived with you for the Whole Year where asked in the My Info section when adding a dependent.

"Extra" credit for a newborn?  No.    But a when you enter the information for a child who was born in 2023, you need to make sure you say they lived with you for the WHOLE year.  Do not pick a lower number of months from that drop down menu.

Careful— do not say that your child’s SSN is not valid for employment.  If your child was born in 2023 make sure you said he lived with you the whole year.  There is an oddly worded question that asks if the child paid over half their own support.  Say NO to that question.

Look at your 2023 Form 1040 to see the child-related credits you received
