Can I remove characters from my federal employer name if I am getting the error "Employer name has too many characters" in the state smart check?

It states under the federal employer name that the name should be typed exactly as it appears on the W2, however, when I attempt to file my state taxes, it informs me to shorten it. Is shortening it allowed?

Yes, you can shorten the employer name from the right end until it fits. Doing so will not cause any problems.
