Can I resubmit my taxes online if mail in did not work?

I mailed in my 2021 tax return with my wife’s form W7, request for ITIN which was rejected as she didn’t have the necessary documents. Now because of that I haven’t heard anything back on my 2021 tax return. What can I do to fix it? I have called IRS and no one has been able to give me guidance or connect with the right department.

Resubmit by mail with the missing documents.

Unfortunately they’re asking for my wife’s passport. And she is out of the country and needs her passport incase the US consulate calls her for interview for our PR. We won’t have any documents to submit. I also was told that she needs to be in the US to file a W-7 from an IRS Officer on the phone today. It’s very confusing. Any other suggestions on what I can do?

In lieu of sending original documentation, you may use an IRS authorized Certifying Acceptance Agent (CAA) or make an appointment at a designated IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center (TAC) location. To find a local CAA in your area, you can visit Acceptance Agent Program. CAAs can authenticate all the identification documents for the primary and secondary applicant.  For dependents, they can authenticate the passport and civil birth certificate; however, they must send the original or certified copies of all other documents directly to the IRS.
