Can I send in a tax year 2023 form now before the end of the year?

In funding a 529 plan, I accidentally added a little more than the gift limit, and need to file a Form 709. I know I have to file that by mail. I'd love to get confirmation that it's resolved.

Can I send it in early? How will I know that it's been received and accepted?

Here's the form, if that's helpful:

Don't file it before January 1st.

See https://www.irs.gov/instructions/i709#en_US_2022_publink16784xd0e827

Form 709 is an annual return.

Generally, you must file Form 709 no earlier than January 1, but not later than April 15, of the year after the gift was made.

......AND, you'll know it's been received if you use a tracking method (Certified or Return Receipt) when you mail it in.....at the PO Service Counter.

In your other thread, you were worried about e-filing your income tax return but mailing form 709.  There are no worries about that.  Form 709 is never a part of an income tax return, so it would never be included with your normal tax return.   Form 709 can only be filed by mail, separately from your tax return.  As suggested above, use a mailing service like certified mail so you will know the IRS received it.
