Question

Can't efile if there's no W2 income?

TurboTax is saying because I don't have a W2 with income I can't efile. I can't find an actual rule online stating this, so curious if others have an idea.

One of the W-2s doesn't have an amount in box 1 or the amount is less than $1. If there is an extra W-2 added to the return by mistake, delete the extra form. Otherwise, the return must be filed by mail.

I was laid off in 2023. I only have interest/dividends/stock-sale income in 2024 no w2 income, however my 2023 employer made a contribution to my HSA in 2024 while I was on COBRA. So I have a W2 but it only declares the HSA contribution.

The IRS will not accept an efile with a blank or zero box 1.  Try entering on dollar in box 1 to enable efile.

The IRS won't accept your return for e-file if box 1 of your W-2 is 0.
