To enter a 1099-MISC in TurboTax:

  1. Open or continue your return, if you're not already in it.
  2. Search for 1099-misc and then select the "Jump-to" link or "Go to" button at the top of your search results.
  3. Answer Yes to Did you get a 1099-MISC?
  • If you already entered a 1099-MISC, you'll be on the 1099-MISC Summary screen, in which case select Add Another 1099-MISC.
  • Or, if you need to edit or delete a previously-entered 1099-MISC, select the appropriate button.

Enter the info from your form into the corresponding boxes.

  • If you need to enter boxes 4–6 or 8–18, check My form has other info in boxes 1–18 to expand the form.

This just tells me how to complete this section!  I already did that.  I am still getting a deduction I don't qualify for.  This didn't help me.

To enter the 1099-Misc so it does not show up as self employment income, after you have logged in and are in your return:

  • Go to Search at the top of the screen.
  • Enter Form 1099-MISC in the search box.
  • You will see a Jump To function that will take you to the 1099-MISC input screens.
  • There add the 1099-MISC
  • Continue through screens then answer "No" to questions involving work and "No" to question on Intent to make money

This will move the 1099-Misc to the other income line and not self employment

You can review your 1040 in the following steps:

  1. While in your TurboTax account, select Tax Tools in the left margin
  2. Select Tools
  3. Select View a Tax Summary
  4. In the left margin, select Preview my 1040
  5. Scroll down to find Schedule 1
  6. On line 8 you should see the 1099-Misc amount in other income
