TurboTax 2017 Premier keeps hanging up when it tries to update TurboTax and I can't move forward. I've tried repairs twice and have also uninstalled and reinstalled the program. I've attached the latest pop up error. I'm using Windows 10 on a desktop. With Windows Defender. I have the latest Netgear router updates, Windows 10 updates. I've turned off the firewall to try to get the updates to work but the error pop up keeps coming up. Can you please help?

Thank you.

Please try the following steps:

1) Close TurboTax

2) Go to Task Manager, click on the "Services" tab. Try finding "IntuitUpdateServiceV4".

3) Right click on the service and click on "Stop" to stop the updater service.

4) Once the updater service is stopped, Go to "C:\ProgramData\Intuit" path and delete the "Common" folder.

5) After deletion, restart the Updater service i.e. Go to Task Manager, click on the "Services" tab. Try finding "IntuitUpdateServiceV4" ,right click on the service and then click on "Start" option.

6) Once the Updater service is started, try opening TurboTax again.

Hope this solves the issue.

I received the same error message when trying to install TurboTax 2019 earlier today.  Apparently Intuit has not fixed the issue with their software and latest version of Windows 10.  Their Support pointed me to a fix that was for a runtime issue with Windows 7.  Your fix worked like a charm.

After an hour on the phone with TurboTax tech support, they blamed it on QuickBooks and gave me their help number.  I did not waste my time on that, and found this solution using Bing search.  It worked perfectly.  Bing is your friend, TurboTax Help is not.
