Question

Canadian NR4 reported as 1099-DIV. What part of the NR4 is equivalent to the 1099-DIV Control Number?

I received an NR4 from my Canadian-based employer who has invested part of my bonus in company stock. Per NR4 Income Code 09 (i.e., dividends), I understand that I must file as 1099-DIV. When I do so, I'm required to enter a Control Number. What is this Control Number?.. is it the Account Number listed on my NR4?

It is my understanding that a control number is not needed to file the return.  You would enter the information under:

Wages & Income

All Income

Interest & Dividends

Click start next to Dividends

When  you get to "Let's get the details from your 1099-DIV or brokerage statement, after entering dividends, check the box "My form as info in more than just these boxes"

Enter any foreign tax paid
