Cannot e-file a 1040-SR for TY2023

Evidently the IRS isn't able to accept 1040-SR forms for e-filing for TY2023, so TurboTax desktop is telling me that I cannot e-file this year and have to submit a paper return. If the data contained in form 1040 and 1040-SR is identical, why can't TurboTax submit my return in the regular 1040 format? I can toggle between printed forms 1040 and 1040-SR in TT desktop, but there seems to be no way to force a digital 1040 e-file. Any help available? I really prefer not to mail in a return.

    This is a known issue in TurboTax and we are working to resolve it as soon as possible. As soon as we have a resolution for you, it'll be shared on Community. The issue is scheduled to be resolved end of 1/31. Please do not file prior to 2/1.

    With today's TT desktop update (1/31/2024), the issue seems to have been resolved. I was able to e-file today, and within a few hours I received notice that the IRS had accepted my return. Thanks @CatinaT1 for your assistance.

    The IRS will accept an e-filed Form 1040-SR so there is something else preventing you from e-filing.

    What is the exact message you received with attempting to e-file the tax return?

     

    Do you have a Schedule C included with your tax return for self-employment income and expenses?

    Have you gone to Forms mode and have a form or schedule listed that has Do Not File written at the top of the form or schedule?

    Evidently there is an issue with desktop e-filing THIS YEAR (TY2023) for forms that TurboTax marks as 1040-SR qualified. I got no error messages as I reviewed my entries, and a check of the TT site shows all the forms in my return as being both "ready for print" and "ready for e-file." As you can see in this string, CatinaT1 writes: "This is a known issue in TurboTax and we are working to resolve it as soon as possible. As soon as we have a resolution for you, it'll be shared on Community. The issue is scheduled to be resolved end of 1/31. Please do not file prior to 2/1." Hoping that is correct. Thanks.
