Question

CD vs download install step-by-step processes are not identical

Some of us have extreme difficulty installing new software using downloads. For some reason we don't understand what to do and the instructions are confusing though they are obvious to most others. I have found that the CD is easiest, though not without some problems, to install new software. If the install setup menu comes up once the CD is inserted without me doing anything and the install occurs with only 1 or 2 decisions on my part, I can usually successfully install the software. Downloads typically involve more decision steps and I invariably mess up a step or 2.

Installing TurboTax from the download is exactly the same as installing from the CD. There are no extra "decision steps." If you are installing TurboTax in Windows, download the installation file to your computer. Then double click the downloaded file to start the installation. After that, it's exactly the same as installing from a CD.

Or you can try the procedure in the following FAQ, which will guide you through the installation.
