Sorry you're having trouble. This is mainly a user community forum. Instead of this old thread which is less likely to be seen by the bulk of the forum, start a new thread dedicated to your issue with "New York state" in the title, and hopefully, someone familiar with the NY state return will see it. In that form, describe your issue in full, such as what happens when you are trying to get the NY state program into your desktop software. If you already have NJ as the state software included in your product, there is an extra $40 fee to add on the NY state program.

Please verify what product you ended up using. If you used Online TurboTax, log in and go to the Tax Home. In the top left corner, underneath the TurboTax logo does it say Free Edition, Deluxe, Premium, Live Basic, Live Deluxe, etc.?
Sometimes people upgrade to a higher edition because of certain items in their return, or accidentally end up in the Live product, which is more expensive since it provides a tax expert at will for help in preparing the return as well as a final review of the return by the expert. Did you end up in a Live product?
And did you have both a Federal return and a state return?
Try clearing your cache and deleting your cookies. Review the TurboTax Help article How to clear your cache and How do I delete cookies? for specific instructions for your browser. Also, reboot your computer.

If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you will answer a question in TurboTax right after you enter your personal information that asks "Do Any of these Apply to YOURNAME?" One of these is "Another taxpayer can claim YOURANME on their tax return." Make sure that box is not checked.
If you are using TurboTax Online you can click on "About Me" and on the screen that asks "Let's check for some other situations" make sure the box "Another Taxpayer can claim me as a dependent on their tax return" is not checked.

If you got a letter from the IRS, any related revision to your return can be handled directly with them. Respond directly to the IRS at the address or phone number on the letter, as soon as possible. I just Paid 83 dollars for something that was not what I wanted. I wanted to file my 2023 taxes and ended up getting some stupid desktop download
To complete and file a 2023 tax return using TurboTax you would need to purchase, download and install on a personal computer one of the 2023 desktop editions
A 2023 tax return can only be printed and mailed, it cannot be e-filed using TurboTax.
