Have you entered income from a W-2 or self-employment?   You will not get refundable additional child tax credit if you did not have enough income from working.

Everything has been filled out and I believe it's all correct.

It says "You are receiving the full $2,000 Child Tax Credit because you have 1 qualifying child and your income is below the filing limit. Since the maximum Child Tax Credit for 1 child is $2,000 and you qualify for the full amount, your Child Tax Credit is $2,000. This reduces your tax amount."

But when I try to finish filing it doesn't add the  $2,000 like it did last year. Sorry I'm just confused.

If you were eligible for the Child and Dependent Credit it will be on your Schedule 3 Line 2 which flows to Form 1040 Line 20.  The amount will be included in your federal tax refund or it will reduce the amount of taxes owed.

You can view your Form 1040 plus Schedules 1, 2 and 3 at any time using the online editions. Click on Tax Tools on the left side of the online program screen. Click on Tools. Click on View Tax Summary. Click on Preview my 1040 on the left side of the screen.

What does this mean? The federal refund is not on the 2441. There are a number of values on the 2441 that affect the federal refund.

Please rephrase your question to be clearer.

The total per child is $2000.   First the $2000 is used to reduce your tax owed down to zero.  When (if) your tax owed is zero, the "rest" of the $2000 can be added to your refund as the Additional Child Tax Credit----up to a maximum of $1600 per child.  But....that Additional Child Tax Credit also depends on how much you earned by working.

Take the amount you earned, subtract $2500, and multiply what is left by 15%.  That is your additional child tax credit ---- up to a maximum of $1600 per child.

Look at your 2023 Form 1040 to see the child-related credits you received
