I had a child at the beginning of this year and the child was therefore not on my 2020 tax return. How do I get the child tax credits for 2021? Do I wait until I file next year?

Congratulations on your new little one!  The good news is you do not have to wait until you file your 2021 tax return to get the child tax credit.  You can use the IRS portal to add a dependent that was born in 2021.

The IRS does expect this feature to be added to the portal by late summer. Refer to Q A16

    Again, congratulations!
