In 2023, the tax credit is up to $ 2000 per qualifying child under age 17.  It is only refundable up to $1,600.  The amount of credit you receive depends on your income.  You must have earned income of at least $2,500 and your modified adjusted gross income (AGI) should be less than $400,000 if you're Married Filing Jointly or a Qualifying Surviving Spouse, or $200,000 for all other filing statuses.

For more information about the requirements for the Child Tax Credit see the TurboTax help article below:

You need to have taxable income to receive the child tax credit. It may be that your income is too low to qualify for the credit.

You may qualify for the "additional child tax credit" if you don't qualify for the normal credit of $2,000 per child.

You can see a summary of your tax return while in TurboTax by doing the following:

1. Find the "Tax Tools" option on your left menu bar and click on it

2. Click on "Tools"

3. Click on "View Tax Summary"

This will allow you to see if you have any income tax or credits.
