Solved

Daughter marked her return, no on could claim her. I claimed her so my returns were rejected. She amended her returns, received the acceptance. I refiled, still rejected.

Is there a timeframe to wait after she amended before I can refile or do I just have to mail the returns in at this point?

Once your return is rejected because of someone else's mistake, you must mail your return. The e-file system can't coordinate with an amended return.

Sorry--no amount of waiting will let you e-file this year.   Your child put her SSN into the system and you will not be able to e-file a return using her SSN.  Print, sign and date your return in ink, and mail it in.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

If it is any comfort---we will be seeing plenty of these posts.  This is a very common problem for parents of students and young people filing their first tax returns.  They have no idea that they are causing this problem until it is too late for the parents.
