Dear Turbo Tax, Just resubmitted my return for the fifth time. IRS rejected it each time because it said I MAY have a duplicate 1099R. But it does not identify which form they think is a duplicate. I have have checked each time and have not found any duplicates, although there are two 1099Rs that have the same $ amount. I have tried many ways differentiate the similar forms by changing the wording of the Payee, or rounding the amount to .00. And I am now trying again.

What I am suggesting is, a way for Turbo Tax to indicate to the IRS that they should check a form manually, because the IRS computer is creating the error. That way I would not need to submit the identical form by mail, which is more work for the IRS. Thanks for improving our interface with our government.

Add $1 to one of them and subtract $1 from the other one.  It won't affect your return.

I will try that if the latest attempt fails. Thanks

If the two 1099-R's are from the same Payer and have the same distribution code, you can just add them together, and make one entry.   (That's what I do re a local community bank that sends me separate 1099-INT forms for each of my CD's.)

Lots of chat about this poser.  Apparently IRS has a software failure for closely matched 1099Rs.  No one's fault, but not a problem.  Just print them out and mail them to IRS.  They do not have to come with the rest of your return, just be sure the cover information you send with it includes all the information to connect it with your return.

After 4 rejects because of the same dollar figure in my 1099R on 4 different accounts I changed the dollar figure on 3 of the accounts by adding and subtracting 1 to 3 cents and sent it in again.  It appears to me to be a bug in the TurboTax software.  I'm using the cd Deluxe version.  Adding the account name to line one of the financial company had no effect and was rejected on the 3rd try.   Spent over 4 hours trying to contact TurboTax as per the instructions and just went around and around never being able to contact anyone.

Well just go a reply from the IRS that my return has finally been accepted.  Hope someone fixes this problem before next year.
