My spouse passed away in April 2024. I filed as head of house hold.  Do I file for my spouse as single or married filing seperate.

Married filing separate. The IRS has a quick  How Do I File a Deceased Person interactive assistanat. It is very detailed and may give you additional information. Caution: There may be a requirement to file an estate tax return. For additional assistance, please refer to Publication 559, Survivors, Executors, and Administrators

I am very sorry for your loss.

Will I be liable for any tax my spouse owes?  What if I don't have money to pay for their taxes?

If you file a separate return, you would not be personally liable for his tax debt.  @mattm1107
