Can my dependent, 19,  under 24 college student with $9000 in taxable scholarships for me to report on my 1040 waive on having to file a tax return?  She did not work at all in 2023.

I am not sure what the limit is for full time college students to file even it they did have a taxable scholarship for me to report. If she had to file the return would just for for the $9000 scholarship as taxable, right???

No, your daughter should not have to file a tax return.

  • For single taxpayers the Standard Deduction is $13,850 in 2023.   This is larger than the $9,000 that she received.
  • If you receive a scholarship, a fellowship grant, or other grant, all or part of the amounts you receive may be tax-free.
    • Scholarships, fellowship grants, and other grants are tax-free if:
      • You are a candidate for a degree
      • Money is used for tuition
