Dependent Filing Question

Im 19 and still live at home, i have my own job and help my parent with bills. My parent has already told me that she is not going to claim me as a dependent, start getting used to me doing things on my own. If i live at home do i still have to file as can be claimed as a dependent? or since she already plans to not claim me can i file as im not going to be claimed?

    If you are not a student and over age 18 and make over $4300, you cannot be claimed as a dependent even if living in their home. 

     

    Here is a link with all the rules for claiming dependents. Use Table 5.

     

    First look at the qualifying child criteria.  Once you are disqualified there by not being a student, then look at qualifying relative where you would disqualify for making too much money.
