Did not include paid estimated Federal tax on my return, now?

I paid $1,000 in estimated Federal income tax in 2021, for 2021 taxes. Unfortunately, this was not carried through to my actual income tax return. My tax liability was $0.

Can I change the estimated tax payment in my IRS Online Account (or elsewhere) so that the $1,000 will be applied to 2022 (when I expect to have a tax liability)? Or must I file an amended return for 2021?

Thanks!

if you already filed and it was accepted, any overpayment will be refunded. you have no ability to apply the overpayment to 2022.
