Didn’t file my 2017 taxes until last week and had to send them in by mail. Could that be why they feel there is a discrepancy in my 2017 earnings? My 2018 was rejected

Yes - if you didn't file your 2017 taxes until last week, you should enter 0 for the 2017 AGI (or state that you didn't file last year).
