Didn't want to efile but it shows as if I did

I didn't want to e-file, as I was trying to generate only my state tax form. I remember very well selecting not to take any action for federal, and to file by mail for the state. But my portal now shows as if I have e-filed my federal. The problem is, I am not allowed to file 1040 as I am not a citizen/PR. I didn't receive any email confirmation on e-filing also, but I am worried if the system did it as I was generating state returns. Is there a way to make sure that its not e-filed?

You can check your e-file status here -How do I check my e-file status? to see if the Federal return was submitted. You will see "Pending", "Accepted" or "Rejected" if it went through. When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one states that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state or rejected your state return.

If the Federal return did in fact get submitted, it possible the IRS could reject it and then it would be like you never submitted it.

Thank you for your response. I filed using the online free portal. My Tax home page looks like the image below. It says federal return transmitted but doesn't tell the date. And also denotes Federal return pending. But the pdf that got generated says: "File by Mail Instructions for your 2020 Federal Tax Return".

I received a bunch of emails with the same content saying "Hi there. We’re confirming that...Your 2020 tax return was accessed." but I have not yet received any email from turbotax with the word efile. I am not sure how the efile email will look like. Also if it was really efiled, how long can I wait for the status pending to be updated to "rejected" or "accepted"?

I don't remember pressing any big orange button. I was being careful once I reach the efile session of the application. I got several emails back to back saying "your tax information has been accessed" when I downloaded the generated pdf, but I don't have any email saying efile in my inbox. If possible can you tell what the email that confirms efile reads like?
