Do I have a federal filing requirement for 2023, or not?
I am under 24 and a full time student, living with my SO. I have 0 earned income for the year, but will have ~10K in excess scholarships that have been refunded to me. Does the scholarship money count as earned income for the purpose of having a filing requirement, so I would not need to file because I am under the standard deduction of 13K? Or do I still need to file because I'm over the dependent "unearned" income threshold of ~2K?
I think I technically can be claimed as a dependent but my parents have not claimed me for a few years, I know they will not for 2023. I am just confused on whether or not I need to file federal taxes, I know I will need to file Oklahoma taxes though.
