Do I have to create a new account to prepare taxes for my elderly parent?

yes you do. with the online version, each taxpayer needs their own a/c. otherwise, the last entered return will wipe out the previous return.  you can use the same e-mail address for 5 accounts.

Online is only good for 1 return per account.  But you can use the same email address for 5 accounts.   How to start another return in the Online version
