Do I have to wait until feb 12 for my return to be rejected in order to correct a social security number I entered wrong ?

If you filed already.....then YES......you have to wait for it to be rejected by the IRS computers.

And it may not be exactly on the 12th...likely sometime in the 7 days after the IRS starts processing.....they can't do millions of files piled up, all at once.

 

The IRS might start before the 12th..."might"....or might delay longer, but your file is locked up until they do.  In the meantime, you may get some other tax documents you "forgot" to include and you'll be able to correct those other sections too.

 

Never ever rush to file.
