Do I need to add my husband if I am filing HOH and he is not a US citizen living outside the country?

Last year, I filed head of household. On my tax forms, I did not add my husband or any info. This year, I am doing the same thing but when I run the smart check at the end, it keeps saying there is 1 error, asking me for his name and social. He does not have a social. He did over 10 years ago but he abandoned his green card and has been living abroad as a non-US citizen. I live in the US with my kids and we are ll citizens except him. Why is it asking me for his info and is there a way to by pass that?

You can ignore the smart check error and efile without his name and Social Security Number on your return.

Thank you so much KrisD15 for your quick response! I did not even realize I could skip the smart check. I appreciate it 🙂
