Question

Do I need to amend the return after canceling payment

Hi,

I filed my 2024 tax return (accepted by the IRS) with the amount I owe using Turbotax two days ago. Today, I realized I had already made an estimated payment in 2024 (I forgot to include it in TurboTax), which is greater than the actual payment with this return; hence, I'd be getting a refund. How do I correct this? Do I need to amend it?

Regards,

You don't have to do anything.

The IRS will acknowledge the payment and do one of two things.

    1. Make the adjusted payment
    2. Send you a tax notice to confirm that you made the payment.

In either case be patient and do nothing for now.
