Your unemployment pay is taxable, even if you don't receive a 1099-G.

(All income is subject to tax, whether reported to the IRS or not).

Use your records (or memory) to come up with the net amount you received. Without a Form 1099-G, you won't be able to enter it in the Unemployment and Paid Family Leave interview.

You can enter it  as Other Reportable Income. If taxes were withheld, only enter the net amount you received:

  • Go to Less Common Income, Miscellaneous Income and Other reportable income. Enter "Lawsuit settlement" in the Search Box and Select "Jump to lawsuit settlement" "to get to this screen ("Lawsuit settlement" is just an effective search term to get to this interview screen)

  • Continue to the screen "Other Reportable Income". Enter the description as "Unemployment" and the net amount you received. These are NOT wages.

A corresponding amount will be entered on  line 8 of Schedule 1 and Form 1040.
