The requirement to file a federal income tax return is not dependent upon age.

The link below is to an IRS web site that can help you determine whether or not you need to file a return.

Your age has nothing to do with it.  Do you have taxable income?  If your only income is Social Security you do not have to file.  But if you also have retirement income from investments, IRA's or a 401K, etc. , pension income, rental income,  etc. etc. you may need to file.

You must file a federal return if half your SS or RRTA benefits plus your other income exceeds

Single, HOH, or qualifying widower  $25,000

Married filing Jointly  $32,000

Married filing Separately $0

Who has to file?

There's an old saying: "the only things certain are death and taxes" and it's likely you will pay them until (and sometimes after) death. We are the same age you are. You likely get Social Security, interest on savings accounts, and maybe income from a pension or IRA withdrawals. Most of those still get taxed no matter how old you are. Unfortunate, but true. 🙂
