Do I report a 1099 just like I would a W-2?

No.  You report the Form 1099 in the section dedicated to the type of Form 1099 you received.  There are almost two dozen different types of Form 1099, which one did you receive?

If it was a Form 1099-NEC, for contracting or self-employment, it will be reported in the Wages and Income section, from the left menu.

Scroll down to Self-Employment and click on Show More
Click on Start or Revisit for Self-employment income and expenses 

A Form 1099-MISC could be entered in any of these sections of your return, as it is used for different purposes and it depends on which boxes have entries.
