Does a past due tax debt count as a nonbusiness bad debt? My ex-wife was supposed to pay half but did not. I paid the entire amount.

Can I recover some of what I paid the IRS? The divorce decree states that she is responsible to pay.

No. You cannot take a deduction for taxes paid to the IRS even if you paid it on behalf of your ex-wife.
