I opted for my turbo tax fees to be taken out of my federal refund, it states payment completed, does that mean my refund was approved and on its way?

No.   TurboTax never knows if the IRS has processed your tax return and sent your refund.  TurboTax does not get any information after you file your return.

First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

https://turbotax.intuit.com/tax-tools/efile-status-lookup/

If accepted, they try to process it within three weeks but it can be longer.  if you have earned income credit or additional child tax credit, it will be at least the end of February before you see your refund, due to the PATH act that requires that they hold your refund longer.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, only the IRS has any control.  TurboTax does not receive any updates from the IRS. Your ONLY source of information about your refund now is the IRS.

You need your filing status, your Social Security number and the exact amount  (line 34of your 2020 Form 1040) of your federal refund to track your Federal refund:

To track your state refund:

If you chose to have your TurboTax fees deducted from your federal refund, that will take some extra time, while the third party bank handles the refund processing.

Ok, thank you!

That answer doesnt make any sense to me.. Only because when I did my taxes I opted for TT to take the payment for filing out of my federal refund.. They can only get that payment from my federal refund of my taxes were processed and approved.. If it wasn't processed and approved how did TT get their payment?

March 7, 2021

I think TT updates automatically to “payment completed” once the 21 days is up. More than likely it has nothing to do with TT actually getting their payment from the IRS.   I am in the samw

boat, status changed to completed but still no refund.

When you file the return successfully and you choose to pay the fees from your federal refund, the TurboTax program considers the fee paid even though the federal refund has not been released.

It seems like these so called “specialists” can’t even give correct information, everyone’s story is different smh

and the 21 days has NOTHING to do with it! I’m WELL PAST 21 days and I just received “payment completed”

Also if y’all are saying sbtpg handles it,TurboTax had to have received “something” to update to “payment completed”

March 27, 2021

Have you gotten yours?

March 27, 2021

No I haven’t received anything not sure if I updated yet on wmr

July 7, 2021

I filed and was accepted on April 18. I received an email saying that fees would be taken from my bank account. I deferred the payment bc my taxes was still processing. I noticed yesterday JULY 6 it shows my payment is complete. No update on irs or the turbo tax. My fees were suppose to come out of my refund. So does this mean I should be getting my refund soon? Anyone been waiting this long

@knowyjoey You are posting to an old thread that has not had any activity in quite some time. (April 2022)     You have posted to multiple threads in the user forum about your reduced refund, and still do not seem to understand that--per your own comments--your refund was reduced by the IRS.   Your information about that reduced refund is only going to come from the IRS.  No one at TurboTax knows why the IRS reduced your refund.  And if your refund was reduced by the IRS, that reduced refund has nothing whatsoever do do with the third party bank that handles refund processing.  Your issue is with the IRS.

@knowyjoey

On 5-16-23 you stated that the IRS sent you a letter saying your refund would only be $81.

Same thing happen to me  I was suppose to get  $1947  I got  $81   and a  letter  from the IRS  with Zero explanation  simply saying short and sweet  $81  was my refund...
