Does the irs website state all return are free for people who gross 33k or less? Im paying 231.00 absolutely ridiculous.

That's only for those using Freedom Edition, the IRS Free File version of TurboTax (available thru IRS Free File or at www.taxfreedom.com ); there's also Federal Free Edition (Absolute Zero), which is generally free for 1040A & 1040EZ returns. You used TurboTax Live, where you had access to live online tax help from a CPA or enrolled agent (EA); that's a different product with a much higher fee.
