Probably. You will likely owe tax in California if you made a profit on the sale of your mobile home. File a nonresident California income tax form.

 

TurboTax will carry over your capital gains from federal. If you have other capital gains, such as from stocks, you'll have to adjust the amount for California so it only includes the sale of the mobile home.

 

As a nonresident, you pay tax on your taxable income from California sources.

Sourced income includes, but is not limited to:

  • Services performed in California
  • Rent from real property located in California
  • The sale or transfer of real California property
  • Income from a California business, trade or profession
