The notice relates to an update for the TurboTax software, not your operating system.

Why does TurboTax for Mac keep saying there are updates when I check for updates?

TurboTax for Mac automatically adds the current tax form updates whenever you select Check for Updates from the TurboTax menu. This creates the illusion that updates are available even if you're on the latest release.

If you want to make sure you're up-to-date, quit and reopen TurboTax. If you're not on the latest release, the program will automatically download it.

    Other Options

If the steps above don't work, you can force a download of the most recent update. This applies to TurboTax for Mac installed from a CD or download and for the TurboTax app available in iTunes.

    1. With TurboTax open, select the TurboTax
    2. On your keyboard, hold down the Optionkey.
    3. This will change the Check for Updates menu option to Download Latest Updates...
    4. Selecting this option will force the most recent update for TurboTax to download and install.

The App does not load when I click on it and the message comes up.

The message reads: "TurboTax Deluxe 2019" can't be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. How do I resolve this issue?

if you get the message "TurboTax cannot be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software" then that is caused by the Apple "Gatekeeper" introduced with OS X 10.15 (Catalina).

That has nothing to do with TurboTax and will happen for any application not purchased from the Apple Store.

See this Apple article on this: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202491

And this TurboTax help article: https://ttlc.intuit.com/community/troubleshooting/help/turbotax-for-mac-won-t-open-when-installed/00/26611

For older Mac systems when TurboTax will not open.
    See:

Be sure that System Preferences -> Security & Privacy -> General -> Allow apps downloaded from App Store and identified developers is checked.

Go to the Applications folder and select the TurboTax application in the Finder and right click with the mouse (or control click) ans select the top "open". That should force the first open. After that it should open normally.
