It's April 15, 2025 and I realized that I never filed my 2023 Federal Tax Return. Can I still eFile or do I need to mail in my return?

E-filing has been permanently closed for 2023 returns since the end of October 2024.  The only way to file 2023 now is by mail.  Print, sign and date the return in ink, and mail it.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.

Thank you! The app was confusing me, because it stated the efile was unavailable, but the next screen suggested efile.
