This return has been rejected by the IRS because there is a dependent listed on this return whose Social Security Number (SSN) has been listed as the spouse SSN on another return that has already been accepted by the IRS for this tax year.  Verify that the dependent's SSN is entered correctly. If you see a mistake in the SSN, correct it and resubmit the return. If the dependent information is correct as you submitted it, you cannot electronically file your return with this information. You must file by mail.

Can I just file as married not filing jointly? Mail filing sounds so cumbersome.

This is an old thread, @nmangatu   If you want to start a new thread and ask a question, use this link.  New Question for the Community

If you are married, you can file Married filing Jointly, Married filing Separately or possibly, Head of Household.   There are significant differences between those filing statuses, so you don't want to just file separately to avoid mailing your tax return.  You may just need to correct something to remove the error.   Start a new thread and add some details regarding your specific situation.

Is it better for a married couple to file jointly or separately?
