Question

Employer gave 2nd W-2 with $0 box 1 to correct first W-2 and now I can't e-file. What do I do?

My employer failed to include employer matched HSA contributions in their calculation for W in box 12.  Instead of issuing a W-2C, they gave a 2nd W-2 with everything left blank except for the additional HSA contribution in box 12.  I added that to TurboTax and now it won't let me e-file.  How can I fix this?  Do I need to try and get a W-2C or is my only option to paper file?

OK ... you were supposed to add the corrected information to the original W-2 form  NOT  enter the second form ... delete the second form and add the code W on the first form.

@Critter I read another post on here suggesting something similar but that post said that the employer ids needed to match in order to combine W-2s.  The 2nd one they gave me has a different employer id, I assume because the first one was issued through ADP and the 2nd one was done manually.  Does that mean that I cannot combine?  Also, the original one did have a W line, it just wasn't the full amount.

Just COMBINE them.... the new form has the correct code W amount.
