Question

Employer reimbursed 100% of relocation through a third party via accountable plan but all of it is showing up in W2 Block 1 as wages? Is the W2 wrong?

I paid nothing out of pocket and my employer used a gross up For tax assistance. W2 Block 12 Code P only shows $200. However the qualified deductible moving expenses, amounting to $14,000, appear in Block 1 as wages. This brings my adjusted gross  to over $20,000 above my normal income. Do I deducted the $14,000 on form 3909 removing $200 from code p or is the W-2 incorrect?

It's possible that your W-2 is wrong; if you believe it is, you should contact your employer before you file your return.

You can deduct the reimbursed moving expenses that are shown in box 1 of your W-2 on Form 3903.  However, the reimbursements in box 12 with Code P are fringe benefits that aren't deductible.
