Entered Deductions not affecting owed amount???

I entered my charitable donations (which were substantial in 2019) as well as my standard sales tax deduction for 2019 and neither affected my Federal Tax Due - - It feels like there is something wrong with the TT software.  Anyone have a similar issue or can anyone offer any insight? Very frustrating

The total of all your itemized deductions on Schedule A must be greater than the standard deduction for your filing status to have any tax benefit.

    Standard deductions for 2019

    • Single - $12,200 add $1,650 if age 65 or older
    • Married Filing Separately - $12,200 add $1,300 if age 65 or older
    • Married Filing Jointly - $24,400 add $1,300 for each spouse age 65 or older
    • Head of Household - $18,350 add $1,650 if age 65 or older

Click on Federal on the left side of the screen.

Click on Deductions & Credits at the top of the screen

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Wrap up tax breaks

On the following screen the Total of your Standard Deduction and your Itemized Deductions will be displayed.  TurboTax uses the greater of the two deductions and enters the amount on Form 1040 Line 9
