Question

Error importing W-2

First, is there a forum or help site for software issues?  I can't seem to find any way to report bugs.  I tried asking in the help within TurboTax Desktop and the chatbot's answer had nothing whatsoever to do with my question.  I can't find a forum here or any other place on their website.  Even the online help link in the software is bad.

Anyway, I am getting a cryptic error importing a W-2 from Dayforce:  Unsuccessful SONRQ BAD USERID/USERPASS.  It appears Intuit's login is not working.  But that's not the only bug.

There is no place to report sotware bugs.  You can enter the W-2 manually if it will not import.

When I click on "Add W2" the screen goes blank. I do not have option to import or manually enter the data. This did not happen when I did my Son's  taxes. The recent update to TurboTax causes this. Can this be fixed?

What TurboTax program are you using and is it Online or Desktop?

Are you sure you are not still in your son's return?

Importing of W-2's usually is not available from the TurboTax partners until mid-February.

Have you received the W-2 from your employer so that you enter enter the employer EIN and the gross amount of wages in box 1 on the import screen?  Also may need the Control Number in box d.

See this TurboTax support FAQ for importing a W-2 - https://ttlc.intuit.com/turbotax-support/en-us/help-article/import-export-data-files/import-enter-w-2/L55HzdeDr_US_en_US?uid=m6cwafge

Thanks, yes I had my W-2 and entered all the necessary information, the error was due to something else.  But it worked today, they fixed whatever the problem was.

W-2 Import is failing. Is it because the input field for "Box '1' amount" is expecting a password? When filling out the input field MacOS is indicating that it is a password field even though it is not. The import fails and does not provide any information about the cause of the failure.

How can I import my W-2 into TurboTax Premier?

It is just as easy and maybe even faster to manually enter the W2.  And the W2 might import wrong.

To enter a W2
Federal on left or top (Personal in Home & Business)
Click on Wages and Income tab
Then Wages and Salaries
Wages and Salaries – Start (you might have to click on Show More on right)

To enter a W2 manually do NOT enter the EIN
Just hit Continue
Then in pick the Left box - Type it in myself - Continue

In TurboTax Online, consider following these steps to import or manually enter an IRS form W-2.

  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Federal.
  • Down the left side of the screen, click on Wages & Income.
  • Click the down arrow to the right of Wages & Salaries.
  • Click to the right of Wages and Salaries (W-2).
  • Enter the employer ID from your W-2.  Select Continue.
  • At the screen How would you like to add your W-2, you may upload a PDF, JPG or PNG of the W-2 or take a picture of the W-2 with a smartphone.
  • You may also select Type it in myself to enter the form manually.

If you using TurboTax for Windows, try this procedure to correct the problem -

Save your tax return, close the TurboTax program

Right click on the TurboTax icon

Click on Properties

Click on the Compatibility tab

Check the box Run this program as an administrator

Click on Apply and OK

Start the TurboTax program again and see if the problem persists.
