My wife and I had a total $19468 from ssa-1099.  Turbotax $33,096.as my taxable ssa benefits.  This was just 2X the amount its.gov/ita.

How do I report this so it can be fixed?

You need to revisit the Social Security entry screens in TurboTax and correct the errant entry. Look in the Wages and Income section, then Retirement Plans and Social Security, then Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099). Your social security income will be the amounts entered in box 5 of Form SSA-1099.

I have TT p&b2024 on a MAC.   When I click "update" in the Social Security (SSA-1099, RRB-1099) section under 'personal' main entry section all it does is recycle to the top of the main entry section.  I just got TT new update (feb 27) and it still does it.

I was only able to enter SSA-1099 by going to "forms" social sec.

Other users who experienced this issue with Mac devices found that the following workarounds resolved it:

     - If you transferred 2023 Social Security information to your 2024 return: try deleting the Social Security form that transferred over. Look for Social Sec in the list of Forms in Forms Mode, open it and click on Delete Form at the bottom.

    - If you have a supporting details entry for Box 5 of Line A: Remove the supporting details sheet and return to Step by Step, and the interview process goes forward as normal.

I have been able to enter Social Security in step-by-step on my Mac where I don't have a prior year transfer with Social Security.

The issue has been reported for further investigation.

@lfglenn2  , I have windows  Home & Business and can duplicate  your issue --  need details though.

    (a) are you saying that  you each have  19, 468   in your Box 5  of your in dividual SSA-1099 ?  Or that  adding the two Box  5 amounts  you have  $19,468 ?  If together you have  that , then I am very surprised

    (b)  If you can see the  form 1040 , what is on line 6(a)   Total SSA income and  6(b)  Taxable SSA income ?

    (c) What other incomes do you have   -- like interest, dividends, pension etc.  I ask because the taxable amount of  SSA  income  depends on  your income from all other sources.

Please help with the details I ask for and I will  be very happy to chase this down.

You can provide these here  or PM me  ( just NO PII -- Personally Identifiable Information )

    my ssa-1099 box 5 is $5,816.  My wife,s is $13,652, yes total 19,468.  My 1040 line 6a and 6b are both 33,096.  Per 1040 taxable income is 108,215.

PS: while I have your attention I had to enter the data in FORMS (social sec) because if I clicked update (in PERSONAL/social security) the program just recycled me back to the PERSONAL entry form.
