Error in TurboTax for EV rebate for vehicle purchased on August 16, 2022

A vehicle purchased on August 16, 2022 qualifies for the tax credit even if it wasn't assembled in North America and even if the buyer didn't have a contract in place by August 15, 2022. Turbo Tax is wrong on this point. TurboTax says the purchase had to be by 8/15/22 if the car wasn't assembled in NA and there was no purchase contract by 8/15/22.

This IRS post makes it clear that a purchase date of 8/16/22 qualifies (https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/credits-for-new-electric-vehicles-purchased-in-2022-or-before), as does this TT blog post (https://blog.turbotax.intuit.com/health-care/inflation-reduction-act-of-2022-52555/). The date changed by a day when Biden signed the bill (on 8/16/22), but TT didn't update its systems.

I bought my car on 8/16/22. If I can't get TT to fix this, I'm going to have to change the date on the form and submit by mail. Does anyone know how to pass this error to the development team at TT? I've been on the phone with them about 6 times, no luck.

I've read your post and I agree with you.

You can share your return with a specialist.  These are our staff that can make a change like this.

The return will be "sanitized", meaning all names, social security numbers and personal references are removed.

We will then be able to determine the source of the issue.

If you agree, please follow these steps:

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in the menu bar across the top of TurboTax
  3. Select “Send Tax File to Agent
  4. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.
  5. Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.
  7. Please include @JohnB5677 in your reply so that I get a notification and can follow up on the process.

Thank you @JohnB5677! Unfortunately, when I try to create the diagnostic file, it gives me an error because it says the file was created in a different TurboTax product. (I started my return on the online version and then imported it to Desktop TurboTax when I was having this issue with the rebate date.)

Is there any way around this?

Thank you again for your help!
