How do we find when we don’t have my husbands W-2s, yet only mine and I have dependent children, others deceased, and they’re asking the wrong questions
Wait for the W-2. Employers have until January 31, 2024 to provide the 2023 W-2.
You would want to file as Married Filing Jointly even if one spouse has little or no income. You get the best result on a tax return when filing MFJ.
If you try to file now and receive the W-2 after you file then you will have to file an amended tax return, Form 1040-X to add the W-2. An amended return, Form 1040-X, can only be printed and mailed to the IRS if the original tax return was not e-filed. The IRS will take up to 20 weeks or longer to process an amended tax return.
