Federal Taxes - Wages & Income - 1099-R

TurboTax is asking for me to fill out boxes 14-16 on my 1099-R.

14. - State Tax Withheld

15. - State ID

15. - Payer's State No.

16. - State Distribution Amt.

I enter the number on my 1099-R for box 14, the state ID on my 1099-R for box 15, and the payer's state no. on my 1099-R for box 15. However box 16 on my 1099-R is empty. When I leave this blank in TurboTax I receive a message that says, "State distribution amount can't be blank and can't be less than state tax withheld." Please advise on what I should do since box 16 is blank on my 1099-R form.

Thank you to anyone who can help on this issue.

Enter the amount from box 1 in box 16 since you have state taxes withheld in box 14, those taxes were for the distribution amount in box 1.

Box 16 of your 1099-R is the state distribution, which  may be a required entry in TurboTax depending on the state you live in.  Box 2a is the taxable portion of the distribution from box 1.

You can put the amount from box 2a in box 16.  If box 2a is blank, you can use the amount from box 1.

If box 14 is blank, you can leave boxes 14-16 blank.

Thank you Sharon, I greatly appreciate your help! Box 14 did have a number for that box, so I included it in TurboTax.
