I am married but in 2016, I had income & my husband did not due to medical issues.  Can I file head of household and claim him as a dependent or file married w/ 1 income

You do not “claim” a spouse as a dependent.  By filing as “Married Filing Jointly” you will each get the $4050 personal exemptions and the standard deduction of $12,600 for a married couple

Married Filing Jointly is usually better, even if one spouse had little or no income.
