Question

Filing an Extension from your Turbo Tax Account. Why does Turbo Tax ask for SSN, DOB, etc., if you have been filing with Turbo Tax for years and they already have it?

Turbo Tax asking me to enter information that it is already stored within my Turbo Tax profile, raised suspicions as to whether I was actually in the official Turbo Tax website, or not. I expected my personal information to Auto-Populate, unless being asked for data that is variable and has the potential to change, but DOB, SSN? I do not understand. Please Advise.

Depending on how you accessed TurboTax to prepare an extension, you may have inadvertently created an additional account. For example, if you accessed the program from a different TurboTax page promoting the filing of extensions, without logging in to an existing account, the program wouldn't have your information.

In order to keep all of your information together, use the same login each time you use TurboTax.

Even if you choose File an Extension while logged into your account, TurboTax actually takes you outside the tax return program into Easy Extension, where you will be asked additional questions. You can then return to your Tax Home to continue working on your return.

See this tax tips article for more information about filing an extension with TurboTax.
