Filing Federal Form 4868 Extension Through TurboTax Free 4868 eFile Tool

My tax plan for 2019 Federal income taxes is to pay the balance of taxes due for 2019 by 7/15/20 and to file a 4868 extension by that date that gives me until 10/15/20 to file the returns.

Here are my questions.

(1)  I am considering using the TurboTax Free eFile tool to file the Federal 4868.

I want to pay the remaining taxes I owe for 2019 by 7/15/2020 through my online EFTPS account with the IRS, not with the eFiled 4868 form I file through TurboTax.  Is the TurboTax online 4868 efile tool going to insist that I provide a payment when I eFile the 4868 through TurboTax?

(2)  When I pay the balance of my taxes due on 7/15/20 through EFTPS, it will ask me what the taxes apply to. Should I answer 2019 ESTIMATED TAXES or 2019 FORM 1040 to that question?

(3) Will I have any problem eFiling my 2019 tax returns for either Federal or New York state through my TurboTax software in Windows in October 2020 even though it is so far after the normal filing date?  Is there some date where the TurboTax eFiling for 2019 through the software won’t work anymore?

Yes, you can file a federal extension through TurboTax. Here are the steps.

Pennsylvania (PA) has postponed the filing and payment deadline to July 15 and automatically grants a filing (not payment) extension to October 15 if you filed an approved federal extension. Otherwise, print and mail Form REV-276 by July 15 and if you owe, include a check to avoid penalties and interest.

    1. No you are not required to pay any taxes with the Form 4868 using the TurboTax website for e-filing the extension request - http://turbotax.intuit.com/irs-tax-extensions/

    2. 2019 Form 1040

    3. You can e-file a federal and state tax return for 2019 at any time up through October 15, 2020 using TurboTax.  After that date the 2019 tax return can only be printed and mailed.

It is to late to file for an extension.  The extension request had to be filed on or before 05/17/2021.
