Question

Filing for a deceased person. TurboTax prepared it in their name and with "self-prepared." Do I sign for the deceased or should this have my name instead?

"Filing for a deceased person."

You probably failed to tell TurboTax what you are doing.

You will sign with "<your name > as personal rep"

How do I 'tell' TurboTax so I can file electronically?

You can sign your name as "personal representative" if you are the executor, administrator, or otherwise in charge of the deceased person's property.

Does that mean I have to physically sign and I cannot e-file?

personal info:

check the box : filing for someone deceased.

You will get the proper annotations on Form 1040.

You can try to e-File.

Often it fails, especially with TurboTax.

Others have reported success using other tax prep software after failing with TurboTax.
