I have already filed taxes as Married Filing Jointly, but the description for my State submission says Kansas Individual. Should I be concerned about that?  I dont remember an option to change it when doing the state return.  I figured it just went off of what I did for Federal which I verified is Married Filing Jointly.

Maybe it is just awkward wording?

The Kansas Department of Revenue says:

The filing status on your Kansas return must be the same as on your Federal return. There is one exception. If your filing status on your Federal return is Qualifying Widow or Widower with Dependent Child, your filing status on the Kansas return is Head of Household.

The Kansas K-40 is called the Kansas Individual Income Tax.

Print or view the Kansas return and see what is checked under Filing Status about a third of the way down the page.

You can review the 1040 in TurboTax Online by following these directions.

    • Down the left side of the screen, click on Tax Tools.
    • Click on Tools.
    • Under Other helpful links, click on View Tax Summary.
    • Down the left side of the screen, click on State Tax Summary to see the actual tax return that you prepared.
    • Down the left side of the screen, click Back to return.
